Are the retirement estimates on GRB accurate?

Question

Are the retirement estimates on GRB accurate?

Answer

The retirement estimates on GRB use the information you provide and several system assumptions to come up with very accurate estimates. However, there are some employment histories which may contribute to a greater margin of error in the GRB estimate. For example, the system assumes all time contained in your SCD is creditable for retirement eligibility and annuity computation purposes. If you have non-appropriated fund (NAF) service, part-time service, service for which you took a refund of your retirement contributions, temporary service, or military service after 1957 for which you have not made a deposit, the estimate may not be accurate. Additionally, your high-3 average salary in the pre-calculated estimate may be slightly high if you received salary increases other than pay adjustments within the last 3 years prior to retirement. Also, if you use your current salary as your high-3 average salary, and select a retirement date that is less than 3 years from the beginning of the current year, your high-3 average salary will be inaccurate, making your estimate slightly high.
