Effect of remarriage to annuity payments

Question

I receive Survivor Benefit Plan (SBP) annuity payments and I want to remarry. What effect will the remarriage have on my annuity payment?

Answer

If you remarry before age 55, you must notify DFAS and the Survivor Benefit Plan (SBP) annuity stops the first of the month in which you remarry and coverage is suspended. If your subsequent marriage ends due to death, annulment, or divorce, your annuity will be reinstated. If you remarry after age 55, the SBP annuity will continue to be paid. Please contact DFAS and be prepared to provide supporting documentation of all life events so that SBP annuity payments are accurate.
