Actions needed to receive CRDP or CRSC

Question

Do I need to apply or submit a claim to receive the Concurrent Retirement and Disability Pay (CRDP) exemption or Combat Related Special Compensation (CRSC) pay?

Answer

You must apply to your Branch of Service for Combat Related Special Compensation (CRSC).

For CRSC payments: Once the Branch of Service has determined the CRSC eligibility, DFAS and the applicant are provided an Award Letter from the Branch of Service which states the CRSC Award percentage. DFAS uses that information to determine the amount of CRSC pay.

For CRDP: No application or claim is required to receive the Concurrent Retirement and Disability Pay (CRDP) exemption. The VA provides DFAS with a list of eligible retirees. Both organizations work together to provide eligible retirees with their correct entitlements to both VA compensation and/or retired pay with the CRDP exemption.

Note to Reserve/Guard members who retire under Chapter 61 for disability: there are special rules that apply to the CRDP exemption for disability retirees. Please see our webpages for more information or contact your Branch of Service for assistance.
