Advance Leave

Question

Can a member take advance leave?

Answer

Advance leave is a means whereby Service members with limited or no accrued leave may be granted leave to resolve urgent, personal, or emergency situations. Regardless of the amount of advance leave requested, all accrued leave must be taken before the Service member may enter into an advance leave status. Advance leave is limited to the minimum amount needed. Advance leave is normally limited to the lesser of (1) 30 days, (2) the amount of leave that can be earned during the remaining period of active service, or (3) while serving on an extension, leave that will be accrued prior to the member's date of separation.
